Our Story

Meet Sarah, Founder and Owner

I am a qualified primary school teacher, with 10 years of teaching experience, now running Tamarind Tutoring. I am passionate about making learning fun and engaging for all, through games and hands-on learning.

I started teaching back in 2013 and have worked in several schools across Bristol and Gloucestershire across all primary year groups. As well as teaching I have also au paired, nannied and run a local Brownie and Guide group.

Since I left classroom teaching, I have worked with multiple elective home-educated children developing topics that interested children, including Dinosaurs and WW2. This ensured progress and a lot of engagement from the students!

I am passionate about making learning fun and accessible for all and have experience with a variety of Special Needs including dyslexia and autism, as well as a variety of social and emotional needs. This has led to lots of fun games and activities, my two favourites being equivalent fractions hopscotch and 11+ vocab Jenga! I believe if the learning is fun and engaging, the children will want to learn, leading to happier, more self-confident pupils.

One of the main perks of tutoring for me is the confidence boost it gives the pupils. I have really enjoyed seeing many pupils over the years experience the ‘ah ha’ moment and knowing I had a part to play in that is extremely rewarding. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of hearing positive comments from parents and teachers explaining that the student is showing increased confidence in class, or has mastered a tricky concept.

Outside of tutoring, I have recently developed a love of open-water swimming at a local quarry. I also enjoy reading a good book and exploring new places!
